Library Orientation programme and “Know your library” book exhibition held
on 21st August, 2014
To begin with, two days
long “LIBRARY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME” was organized as usual for new admitted
students on 21st to 22nd August, 2014. This
programme was aimed at educating the new students about the important role
of library in widening their mental horizon
and to tell them, that reading good books was must. This programme was organized
in
two parts, which
included
“Instructional” under
which guidelines and instructions on how to make the best use of the library
services were given. Second part of this programme was personal contact
programme in which all the students were taken round the library to acquaint
them with the layout, setup and wealth of the library. All the students were
taken round the library by the library staff to make them aware about the arrangement
of books, how to locate the same and how to use the OPAC to search the location
of a book.
BOOK EXHIBITION:
Library department has a
healthy tradition of organizing “Know
Your Library” book exhibition objective
of this exhibition was to make the
students aware of library collection.
Principal, Dr.
Gurjeet Kaur inaugurated the book
exhibition. She appreciated the efforts of the library staff. She said that the library is an asset of an
institution. She advised the students to read as much books as they can during
their stay in the college to succeed in life and make the best use of the
college library in realizing their full potential.
Approximate 450 students
attended the programme.
The students and faculty
members of this college are eagerly looking forward to see the book exhibition
and appreciated the efforts of the library staff.
DISPLAY BOARDS: Audio visual section of the library displays current information on various aspects e.g. information relating to health, career, religion, Amazing facts etc.

library department organized the following competitions from 26th to
28th November 2014:-

Collage making
The sole objective of
these competitions is to bring the college students to the library, making them
library minded and to inculcate love and interest for reading of good books.37
Students participated in these competitions.

clippings on the occasion of 150th
Birth Anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai.
COLLECTION BUILDING: College library purchased books of more than Rs.3 Lakhs and subscribed several new subject
journals during this period. Total number of Newspapers, Magazines & Journals is 17, 47 & 28 respectively. The collection of books is 40628 .
Workstation This year a workstation was built
with 11 separate cabins supported with the facility of computers and internet
for the benefit of teachers / students alike.

Programme : In order to bring awareness among the college students Library department organized two days long Library Orientation Programme and “Know your Library” book
Exhibition on 13th & 14th September 2017. The purpose
of orientation programme is to guide and
tell the new admitted students about
facilities provided by the college library. Students were taken around the
library to make them aware about the rules of the college library , the
arrangement of books and how to use the OPAC to search the location of a book.
2. Book exhibition
: “Know
your Library” book Exhibition was held on 13th & 14th
September 2017. The
objective of this exhibition was to make the wealth of the college library
known to the students of the college and to enable them to read maximum number
of books.
Sh. B.L. Sharma, IAS, Education Secretary inaugurated the
Book Exhibition.
He appreciated the efforts
of the library staff and said that the library has a nice collection of books,
well maintained and befitting in Institution of Higher Learning. Approximate
450 students visited the library during this programme.

24.02.2018.
6. Display Board: Audio visual section of the library displays

career, religion, Amazing facts and stress free examination etc.
7. Clipping file: It is maintained with
all the news related to the college and education.
COLLECTION BUILDING: College library purchased books of Rs.13,68,842/- including value of the gifted books of Rs.14,210/-) and subscribed several new subject journals during this period. Total number of Newspapers, Magazines and Journals is 17, 56 & 31 respectively. The collection of books is 44044.

students visited the library during this programme.

6. World Book Day: The Library department
and Literary Society "VAANGMAYA" of Post Graduate Govt. College,
Sector 46, Chandigarh celebrated World Book Day on 23rd April 2019.The event
was formally inaugurated by our worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rosy Walia Joshi.
Students were made aware about the history and importance of celebrating World
Book Day through articles displayed on display board.
7. National Digital
Library: Library is an active member of National Digital Library initiative
of Govt. of India.
Membership of U.G.C. INFONET:
To promotes open
access to e-resources, library has the membership of UGC-INFONET Digital
Library Consortium (E-Resources@ N-LIST) (http://nlist.inflibnet.ac.in/).This
programme provides access to more than 6000 e-journals (including current
issues with 5-10 years back files) and more than 97000 e-books.
COLLECTION BUILDING: The collection of books is 45377. Total number of Newspapers, Magazines and Journals subscribed is 17, 49 & 24 respectively.
